This memoir details the life of the Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore, the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. The work is translated to English by an unnamed personal friend.
This particular copy is inscribed by the owner: Josephine B. Stiefel, Paris, 1922
The plate in the front cover records that the same owner donated the book to the college library in memory of Ralph C. and Mary Bowen Stiefel, likely her parents. This page also includes a price and a few numbers written in pencil.
Throughout the book, there are a few pencil markings; a few sentences are underlined, and a few paragraphs are marked down the side.
About half-way through the book, there is a bookmark from a British insurance company, possibly picked on the same trip during which the book was bought.
